Sometime during the Victorian Era,
the custom of putting charms into the lower layer of the wedding cake emerged. The
charms were attached to satin ribbons, placed in the cake and then pulled by the
bridesmaids. The charms represented good fortune, good luck, travel, children and
longevity and were given as a gift to the bridesmaids.
We at Charming Traditions(TM) thought this was too charming of a
tradition to be used only at weddings for bridesmaids! Therefore, we have
expanded the tradition to include all the life-affirming occasions a woman experiences
during her lifetime, and have even given it a name! We call this experience being
"Charmed." It brings women of all ages together to honor a special person
in their lives, and acts as a bond for that group of women to share and cherish
forever. Now you don't have to wait to be a bridesmaid to experience the fun of
being "charmed!"
